The strongest system is a chain with no weak links. Eagle chain links have a smooth radius, with no sharp edges or chamfers, which yield a significant reduction in noise, friction and wear. This design also allows for a flatter plate, which means more consistent chain riveting and greater overall strength. 

Eagle Chain has a very large part in the smoothness and smooth running of the XX1 Eagle 12-speed groups. This is achieved through particularly rounded outer flaps and the consequent elimination of sharp edges.
